We are pleased to announce three weeks of Summer Ringette Camps in August 2010.
Summer 2010 Ringette Skills Development Camps will be held on the following dates and locations:
- August 9 - 13 at the Leduc Recreation Centre
- August 16 - 20 at the Tri-Leisure Centre in Spruce Grove
- August 23 - 27 at Millennium Place in Sherwood Park
All camps are five full days in duration, 9 am - 4 pm, daily.
Summer 2010 Ringette Skills Development Camps are for Novice - Junior aged players. Each age group is limited to 32 participants (30 skaters & 2 goalies) to ensure a very favorable student/instructor ratio, which is the hallmark of our Summer Ringette camps.
It is important to note that Summer 2010 Ringette Skills Development Camps are not designed, nor intended, to be solely conditioning camps. While a high activity level is present in many areas of the camps, the main focus is to develop and improve ringette skills, as well as contribute to the overall development of the athlete.
When registering your daughter for camp, please select the age category you would expect her to play at in September, 2010. All age groups in the camps receive a combination of power skating instruction, on-ice training, scrimmages and an off-ice skill & player development program.
The power skating component of the camps will be taught by Donna Stewart, an acknowledged expert with more than 20 years of power skating experience.
All other areas of the camp will be taught by U of A Ringette players, most of whom have an average of 15 years of playing experience. These camp instructors are some of the most skilled university ringette players in Canada today and are equipped with a wealth of ringette knowledge that will undoubtedly improve any young player's ringette skills. As well, U of A Ringette players are great role models for your daughter, demonstrating first hand that excellence in athletics and academics can go hand in hand. Many of the camp instructors are recipients of various ringette scholarships for excellence in academics and ringette.
The U of A Ringette team's goalie will be on hand at the camps to work with any individuals wishing to receive goaltending instruction. Please ensure you clearly indicate on the registration form if you desire goaltending instruction for your daughter. Only a small number of registrations will be accepted for this specialized area.
All camp registrants must wear full ringette equipment (including shoulder pads) in order to participate in any on-ice activities. For off-ice activities a sturdy pair of runners, shorts and a T-shirt are required. All participants will receive a Summer 2010 Ringette Skills Development Camp jersey. Ringette T-shirts will be available for purchase during the course of the camp.
Camp registrants will be provided with a supervised lunch area during each day of the camp. However, it is the responsibility of each participant to bring their own bagged lunch. There are concessions located in each of the three facilities where food & beverages can be purchased.
The cost to attend any of the Summer 2010 Ringette Skills Development Camps is $395 (includes all taxes & fees). Did you know that camp fees are eligible for the Federal Government's new Children's Fitness Tax Credit (see link below for more details)? Alternatively, camp fees are eligible to be considered for a child care deduction on your 2010 personal income tax return.
